The Curriculum of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Junior School firmly embraces the
principle that “Every Child Matters”.
To this end our curriculum aims to fulfil the 5 following strands:
*Being Healthy *Staying Safe *Enjoying and Achieving
*Making a positive contribution *Achieving economic well being
These strands are evidenced across the whole life of our school and in every subject area.
The National Curriculum is delivered throughout our school. There are six core subjects Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Information Technology and PE.
The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is a thematic approach to deliver history, geography, art, design technology, and music. Each year group covers one topic every half term which includes elements of each above subject, which are linked together enhancing learning through topic based activities.
The goal of the IPC is for children to focus on a combination of academic, personal and international learning. We want children to enjoy their learning; develop enquiring minds, develop the personal qualities they need to be good citizens of the world, and develop a sense of their own nationality and culture, at the same time developing a respect for the nationalities and cultures of others. Most of all, we want children to develop all the skills they will need in order to confidently face the world of tomorrow.
Children within each year group are organised into mixed ability classes. Those children identified as having special educational needs are assessed and Individual Programmes of Education are compiled for them. Every child will be expected to follow the full teaching curriculum. A medical certificate is necessary if a pupil is to be excused from any aspect of Physical Education. The curriculum is supplemented and enhanced by visits to places of educational and historic interest as well as work within the locality. The school has always endeavoured to offer children the experience of a residential trip. We feel it promotes self-confidence, a good self-image, self-reliance and valuable opportunities in the practice of personal and social skills and our expectation is that all children should be given the opportunity and encouragement to attend.
